Geetings experts
I am working on a 1969 Grand Prix.
Can anyone please tell me the oil and freon capacities.
Still an A6 and R-12

Thanks
Dave

I posed your question to MACS, and here (after a long delay) is what they said:

"1969 PONTIAC, GRAND PRIX AND TEMPESTĀ
Under normal conditions, receiver-dehydrator will show clear with about 3-1/2 pounds of refrigerant in the system. However, the air conditioner will not produce its best performance until 4-1/8 pounds of refrigerant are in the system. Do not overcharge with refrigerant, as this will result in extremely high head pressures and the compressor safety valve will blow."

They don't mention the mineral oil capacity, but IIRC, it is as Tim mentioned.

I appreciate that info, John.
I charged R12 liquid to the high side until it wouldn't take any more and that was about 4 pounds on the scale. Blows cold at 40Ā°.
Did not have to add any vapor. Pressures are very acceptable tho I can't recall numbers right now.

What MACS said suggests the receiver is a bit undersized and the system is using the last few rows of the condenser for reserve.

Anyway, we are all set, thanks very much.

I recall these systems held 3.75 lbs of R12. About 80-90% of this amount for R134a.
