Identification of mystery oil

Post by Twinnie »

So I've got a big drive coming up which will take a few days and I've been trying to find some PAG oil for my compressor (I've heard mixing oils is bad). When I got the compressor it had already had PAG oil in it in the past and I totally drained what was left. I've been struggling as nobody here seems to know what PAG oil is and I was at a garage where I had a choice between a bottle that I know is definitely POE, and a mystery bottle labelled "OIL LMW". The mystery bottle was cheaper than I was expecting it to be (20 Moroccan dirhams for 250ml, about $2) but the mechanic said he uses it himself. He didn't know what it was.

On the bottle it says:
R134
Marque deposee (translates to registered trademark)
OIL LMW

Literally all it says, which tells me it's made nearby so that might explain why it's so cheap. I haven't got the bottle on me right now but I've been told the oil is white, but it's in a white bottle so I guess it's clear.

Sorry, I know this is a bit weird but that's just life out here. Can anyone please help? Is it going to ruin anything in a few days? I have an extra 70ml in the bottle that I don't need so I can rinse it out with that, and then I can flush the system out with PAG from England in a few weeks.

Some googling suggests lmw means low molecular weight, perhaps means PAG 46.
If the shop owner uses it all the time then it is probably ok.
On the other hand ester is miscible with PAG so why not use that?

Put 5cc's of the oil in 5cc's of water. Mix well. If it stays mixed it is SEC PAG

Thanks. I mixed them up and they stay mixed. I think I’m going to give it a go and see how things go.
