bohica2xo,
Here is a cutaway pic of the txv. How would I lock it open? Just back the adjustment clear off?
Thanks,
Earl

Wow. What a beautiful casting. Absolutely no reason to discard a rigid, well designed item like that.
A wide open invitation to a direct mount compressor. Two tabs on a plate at the hinge line and mount the plate to the bracket. Tension arm tab as needed.
Yes, your valve can probably be backed down far enough to stay open against the refrigerant pressure. You actually have some adjustment range to work with, which may come in handy.
You can use a fixed displacement compressor with an FOT system if you want. With a plate mount you could switch from a Sanden to a V5 or a TM21. Just bolt holes and standoffs. You could mount a Tecumseh / York on it.

LOL Brad,
You can scrape the mussels and barnacles off my cast iron Tecumseh, or use my York air compressor

Been waiting to see you here.
Barnacles? Oh man I need to post some pics for you! Do you happen to have a vent assembly for a Mark IV Roadmaster?
The OP has a compressor on this Packard that I don't recognize, but you probably do - made back when you were a teenager hunting dinosaurs...

Re: 53 Packard Patrician factory AC
I managed to score a GM delphi V7 core to use for mocking up purposes. I also sourced a v-belt clutch kit that fits GM V7 compressors. Unfortunately Delphi no longer produces the V7.
Please review the current plan.
*Use a GM V7 compressor, from Tim if he can source a good brand.
*Back off the OE expansion valve all the way so it acts more like a fixed orifice. Read articles that say the compressor will hunt if the expansion valve isn't specifically for a variable compressor.
*Fab a plate to hold the compressor to the OE mount and pivot for belt adjustment.
*Figure out the best method to determine oil capacity.
*Figure out the best method to determine R134A capacity.
*Figure out what variable valve to use in the V7.
*Install the largest parallel condenser that will fit.
*Thoroughly flush the EVAP core and the copper tubing from the engine bay to the EVAP.
I do need to leak check the tubing and EVAP core with a vacuum. I have fittings ordered so I can connect my vacuum pump directly to the tubing. Then hope the hell the evap core is good. I will do this next before I drop any money. If the EVAP is bad, then I will likely leave it and add an under dash unit leaving the trunk unit intact. I doubt I'd find a core that would fit.
Thanks,
Earl

Re: 53 Packard Patrician factory AC
There are no OE V7 available as far as I know. I just asked the compressor shop.
