The compressor clutch in gages when the engine is cold and will work until you shut the car off, but the clutch won't work after the engine is warmed up. I don't know if it's a sensor or what.

Try using a screwdriver handle and tap the clutch plate. See if it engages. If so, you have the well known gap problem.
