Gland Nut seal grease

Had to tighten up my gland nuts on my gauges yesterday to stop a leak.

This made me think that shouldn't there be something between the seal and shaft to lessen wear and help seal the shaft (if there was any, it's long, long gone)....

Is there some sort of vacuum grease that can be added that doesn't react with any of the common oils and refrigerants?
