I am stepping thru the archives and several years back you posted about a youtube you found about specialized rods made by Muggyweld for welding/brazing difficult metals such as aluminum and pot metal and such.
I looked at some of their vids and they look appealing...
Did you ever try any of their products?

This is what we used in our shop for years. Works amazing for hose builds and so on. Can be used with a Map Gas setup. But I prefer a stand touch set.

Welding Rod with Flux.
