2001 Escort ZX2 compressor leak

Car has 37,000 miles. I evac and charged to spec and it blows ice cold air but after a few days the charge has leaked out. My leak tester goes off above the compressor and I can see yellow dye on the body of the compressor below. I have a few questions.

1) Can I replace just the compressor without a R/D, orifice tube or flush? Since it's just a leak and not a failure, there wouldn't be any metal bits to worry about.

2) I would go with a Motorcraft compressor and see these choices. YCC491 for $278, NYCC16 for $219 both with clutch, and YC2465 for $178 without clutch. What is the difference between them besides the clutch.

3) I see some Motorcraft on Ebay for $150 like https://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-Motorcraft ... 0854!US!-1 that look like they have been on the shelf for 15 years. Would that be a problem?

4) Is there a reseal kit for this compressor and if so, how complicated is it to do?

Disclaimer: although I live in Arizona where we can get 115F in the shade, I'm NOT an AC professional, even though I know "some".

If my vehicle, since your issue is a leak so you likely don't have particles in your system, I would get a brand-new compressor and a brand-new receiver-drier. Your leak is large enough that you have not had constant positive pressure of refrigerant, so air/humidity got into your drier.

NEVER add any sealant or refrigerant containing sealant. I would add some UV dye when I would add the refrigeration oil to the new compressor (I'd always drain and measure the oil amount in ANY new compressor).

Board sponsor sells compressors and driers, and I've purchased from them in the past. ACkits.com 602-233-0090

I just came back to post an update but never got any email notification of replies, even though I have the "Notify me when a reply is posted" checked. I got a Denso compressor and installed it. This is a $300 car so didn't want to replace other parts, especially since it's blows ice cold and has low miles. My only problem is during charging, after getting in 1 lb 3 oz, it wouldn't take any more. Takes 1 lb 12 oz. I think my drum of freon is nearly empty. It weighs just 9 pounds. Will have to get a new drum to finish. What are drums of 134 going for currently? I probably paid about $90 3 years ago.

R134a cans (12 oz.) are $4.88 here at Home Depot, Walmart. Suggest using a can for your purpose.

That's about $6.50 a pound. Bought a drum for $84 yesterday which works out to $2.80 a pound and is much easier to work with and dispense the right amount.
