Mercedes 240D freon Capacity
Does anyone know the R12 capacity for a 1979 240D Mercedes using a York compressor? Also, the system has been depressured for several weeks now. How much oil is required and where is it inserted. I plan to evacuate the system and resupply with R12 and oil in another couple weeks. Any assistants would be greatly appreciated.

It will be in the range of 19 to 22 ounces of R12.

If you stay with R12. When the site glass on drier clears. Once you get close to 19 ounces add a little slowly until it clears.

A few more questions. I have all components, other than the evaporator on the bench. I plan to flush all components with a A/C flush medium. After the flush I will need to refill the system with oil. I'm using R12 freon. What type of oil should I use, and where and how to inject/pour the oil into the system? Is there a method of draining the oil in the compressor. I'm replacing the accumulator and the expansion valve.

Mineral oil and the compressor is the only component that needs that oil so whatever your total oil amount is, you'd put the majority in the compressor. Sometimes the position of the compressor warrants the amount you can put in because even if plugged, when you unplug it, out it comes!!
You can also suck in a measured amount into the compressor using your vacuum pump. They also sell injectors where a measured amount goes in along with the refrigerant. I have one that holds 3oz., I think, good for adding a bit.

The York compressor has an oil sump. It should be drained.
If you need to flush it, use oil to flush. Use the same oil you intend to use in the system.

To check the oil in York, you need a dipstick. Easy to make, instructions in the factory service manual here:

Okay, I've filled the compressor with the proper amount of mineral oil. Do I understand correctly that I don't have to put any oil into the receiver dryer? And where and how much dye should use?

All of the oil goes in the sump on the compressor.
Any dye you use goes in the sump too.
Some oil migrates past the piston rings, and ends up in the system. It circulates through with the refrigerant.

Thanks, any suggestion as to how much dye to use? Also what are the set points for the receiver drier pressure and temp switches?
