Hello all
I replaced most components in my 89 BM 325i except the evaporator and a handful of the lines. I replaced all the o-rings.
The system leaks pressure relatively rapidly (a day or so) but does cool after a charge.
I have UV dye in the system but its not been helpful as I have some UV 'stains' from the prior R12 system leaks. That test indicated leakage at the compressor, I replaced it as part of my r134 conversion.
I see some modestly priced leak 'sniffers' that have reasonable ratings - has anyone used one for auto a/c repair?
Can a sniffer detect leaks in areas such as the evaporator that is concealed by a bit of plastic interior paneling?

One can try to identify evaporator leaks by using a sniffer in the vents or at the condensate drain tube without removing the evaporator case or dashboard.
However, about 15 years ago I confirmed a leak in my 1988 Mazda B2200 truck evaporator using plain old soap bubbles. So that's also a good technique not to be forgotten.
