73 stingray with high AC pressure

Post by Cgregerson »

I have a 73 stingray and just replaced the condenser, VIR, and compressor with all new parts. Charged the system with R134 and the pressures are running very high around 400 for the high side and low pressure is running around 50. Any ideas of what may be causing this high pressure?

Poor condenser performance.

Tube & Fin condensers will not handle the heat load of R134a refrigerant. An upgrade to a parallel flow condenser will help. Finding a direct drop for your vehicle will be difficult.

Converting a Corvette to 134a is a fools errand.

R12 is still available. Some cars just need to stay that way, and the Corvette is the best example.

The above is exactly correct. Spray a water hose on your condenser. If all pressures drop, you have proven what was said. Use R12 and be done with it.
