A flat surface, some 180 grit wet-or-dri sandpaper, a little kerosene...
Take .016 off of that shim the old fashioned way.
Need to find the right part to replace my a/c clutch
Re: Need to find the right part to replace my a/c clutch
Really? That thought had crossed my mind but then I decided against it as being way too imprecise. My concern was that it could end up uneven, i.e. not a uniform thickness from one side to the other. I think I'll still look for one at the hardware store that is an exact match and about half the thickness. If that fails, out comes the sandpaper!
Re: Need to find the right part to replace my a/c clutch
Lapping the thickness of a few sheets of paper off is not too hard.
Rotate the part often & flip it regularly. Lap in a figure 8 motion to equalize pressures.
Measure the part at a couple of spots. You can hold less than .001 with a little practice.

Sounds reasonably easy. And I could practice with any old steel washer I have laying around in my shop.

You can get these spacers and a high-end bike shop. They use them to space disk brakes on mountain bikes.

Wow, I never would've thought of that! Have a bike shop nearby, I'll check with them this week.
