A/C QUICKCAPS just a gimmick or actually useful?

I'm referencing this topic from last year viewtopic.php?t=15351&sid=8f73f1b65389b ... 0b85000ea2 about the role of dust caps on the service ports and what role they play in keeping the system from leaking. It mentioned that the caps will prevent refrigerant loss even if the Schrader valves leak.

I came across an ad for A/C QUICKCAPS that pretty much says the opposite:

No need to spam our site with that link. A good Schrader valve and a service cap with a fresh O-ring will be all you need.

I used the metal caps on GM high side ports until they came out with a valve core that allowed a traditional schrader valve core to be used rather than that dumb nylon rubber ball. Even with the plastic cap in place those GMs could lose the full charge in a week when that junk service port failed to seal or started leaking shortly after service work was performed.

With an electronic leak detector, one can readily determine if refrigerant is leaking past the caps.

If new plastic caps and schraders were all you needed and leaky schrader valves , plastic caps weren’t a huge issue and the biggest leak in Auto Air we wouldn’t be having the conversation right now. No, they’re not a gimmick they’re leak proof and should be the industry standard. Did you know that new schrader valves are considered good if they only lose up to 5% of the systems refrigerant annually? As they age and in extreme cold the seals on schrader valves shrink up causing you to lose even more refrigerant.
It’s best practice to change the system’s schrader valves and then install A/C Quickcaps when finished. Why would you use a plastic cap that will allow refrigerant to leak past it over time when you can use a cap that holds 100% of the vehicles refrigerant even without a schrader valve in the service port. (Without Schrader for testing purposes only) they also prevent fluid from entering the service port leading to rust / corrosion that ruins Schrader valves as well as service port fittings.
Since I started using A/C Quickcaps in my shop as standard practice my comebacks are down 90%. Which has led to happier customers, techs and myself as shop owner not having to warranty refrigerant that costs $10.00-60.00 per pound or not getting yelled at by angry customers that they aren’t paying for schrader valves and we should of seen that leaking at time of service often times 4-5 months ago. There are absolutely ZERO reasons that plastic caps are better than A/C Quickcaps. Not to mention finding the correct plastic caps cap often times be a real pain! There are hundreds of different Caps and A/C Quickcaps eliminates that aggravation as well . Two sets of caps covers every vehicle there is! Not to mention A/C Quickcaps look great and really dresses up your engine bay,

I agree that there are different-sized caps and schraeders. Maybe cost-effective for a shop at $60, and maybe worth it for 1234yf. Especially as an upsell for a shop.

But my three vehicles are R134a, and one on R-12.
