AC problem

Post by Hasan »

Hello, I have a problem with my car's air conditioning. It only cools at high RPM. My car is a 2016 Kia Cerato and the compressor is a variable displacement compressor with a mechanical pressure control valve. What is the cause of the problem? Note that I told you to replace the valve with a new one and the problem persists.

Disclaimer: I'm NOT an AC professional.

You should post more information. My wild-ass guess is that since it cools at higher rpm, the Kia is moving along the road at that time. I wonder if your electric fan/fans moving air through the condenser and radiator are working...sounds like it could be an air flow issue...

By the model name of your car, I take it that you're located in Australia. Welcome to this USA-based Forum!

Even though your 2016 Kia Cerato (Forte model in this country) has a VDC with a manual control valve, the latter of which you already replaced, the system might not have the precise weight of refrigerant in it for the VDC to operate properly.

Your car could indeed have an airflow issue. But also crucial is to ensure that the system has the correct refrigerant charge in it.

That is, have a professional Mobile Vehicle A/C shop recover the refrigerant, compare the weight of the recovered R-134a to the amount that it should contain, then evacuate and recharge the system according to the car maker's specifications or under-hood decal.

Only then should additional diagnosis/troubleshooting be carried out (pressures, center vent temperature, leak testing, etc.). But the correct weight-of-charge in and of itself might fix it.
