Capacity? 2016 Silverado

Post by andrew vanis »

What's the proper refrigerant capacity for this 2016 Silverado I'm checking out for a friend? Checking online shows several different results.

Any hints on this low performing system? It'll be my first domestic. Plan is to evacuate and fill to proper capacity.

Thanks
Andy

Always check the sticker in Eng Bay. That was AllData's listed capacity.

Looked hard for the sticker. None to be found :(. Where are they typically and I'll look again.

GM mostly placed them on the Radiator support. All data is pretty good; run with it. No need to over think that with data super close. :)

No sticker found :-/

And it didn't matter.

Gauges showed good pressure and there was some cooling (and I was short on time) so I was just going to "top it off" as long as the temp delta kept improving.

Luckily, somehow, it came up that it wasn't blowing that hard and friend said yeah, not as hard as it used to - I found t the e cabin air filter caked with dust (lives in rural area).

Took the cabin filter out (with the AC off so not to suck any dislodged dust into the evap) and was getting full air flow and a nice cool 45F delta between ambient and center vent with all doors open on a 103F day.

I'm used to older cars without cabin air filters. This that me to check that before adjusting refrigerant.

SO glad I didn't overfill his system!
