Ac blows cold, then warm.

Post by Noquacks »

People,

2001 civic EX, original owner. AC blows very cold sometimes, when it does the comp cycles on/off every 3 seconds, so quickly like something is wrong. Then, during a drive, out of the blue it stops blowing cold completely. Pressures on the ow side show 30-50 or so when blowing cold (cycling every 3 seconds). High side is up there, dont remember exactly, around 350, with badly fluttering needle. Could it be a bad pressure switch? Outside temp is about 85 deg.

Tips appreciated.

Have system professionally recovered and recharged to spec before going further

Some additional considerations:

If my memory is correct, I believe your car has a scroll-type compressor with a thermal switch (TS), which costs almost as much as a brand-new compressor that comes with a new clutch and TS. If it turns out that the TS has failed, consider replacing the entire compressor.

Is the compressor noisy, and how many miles has this Civic logged?
