Thank you to both of you. I agree that I am on borrowed time, and that it is best to replace the compressor before failure.
Come to think of it, this truck was pretty rough when I purchased it. Dog hair everywhere, looked to also be an Arkansas farm vehicle I bet it saw all kinds of low speed operation, ac on ac off stop and go, blah blah.
Oh well, at least it was cheap!
I will report back in the future when I replace this compressor

Appreciate it when people post back.
BTW with the usage you describe, if there is a cabin air filter, I'll bet it is clogged with dog hair

No cabin filter on this one, I think it was just constantly recirculating dog hair Airflow from vents is plenty sufficient thankfully.tbirdtbird wrote: ↑Thu Aug 11, 2022 5:46 pm Appreciate it when people post back.

You are lucky the evap is not covered by a mat of doghair.
Knew a sheet rocker whose evap was totally clogged by sheetrock (plaster) dust from his boots. No filter. Think it was a Dodge

hi
Clean the evap ,and change the TXV while its all out .
Cleaned the fleet vehicles every 60--80k miles .
Most were at least partly covered in debris . Excessive long term dirty evap cores are far more likely to leak . Caused by excess moisture and any acid based chemicals on the air born debris .
