Removing key way from compressor shaft

Hello all. I'm in the process of changing out the shaft seal on ac compressor. I received seal and installation tool but installation tool does not go down shaft due to the key. I am told by century air, whom I ordered tools from, that key is removable. Any ideas, suggestions, advice greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Try a small, thin-blade screwdriver worked into the keyway and tapped in gently behind the key to pop it out.
