Depressurising a/c - no high pressure side valve?

Hi

There is a pressure switch in the valve location, wondering if this is mounted on the valve? If not what is the procedure for depressurising?

It looks to me as if this is an R-12 car and that someone attached an aftermarket high-pressure cutoff to the high-side Schrader valve port for reasons not known. There's no way to know whether there's still a Schrader valve below the HPCO, so I wouldn't take the chance of just removing it. You could recover the charge through the low side only, although doing so will be a slower process.

I can't identify the cylindrical shaped part.

It's not necessary to run the engine to recover the charge, but doing so beforehand will warm everything up and help the recovery process go a little faster. The refrigerant and usually some oil will come out assuming that the system still has refrigerant in it.
