Drier for a Motorhome (Evans Tempco)

Post by Frankly »

So I had to remove the condenser to remove the radiator from out of a 1994 Ford chasis Motorhome. The shame was that the A/C system was working fine. I found a new drier and installed it. The only issue was the original drier had a brass valve on the discharge side that I did not understand its purpose. I tried to reinstall it as it came out on the new drier. But now that I have evacuated and recharged, the suction is running negative and the discharge is only about 150. I fear that this brass valve is creating a restriction. Should there ever be any valves around the drier, and if so, what would be their purpose? I am thinking about purchasing another drier and eliminating this device?

Sounds undercharged, was the brass valve a Schrader fitting? Is this system using R-12? 1994 might have been R-134a, but being a motorhome, maybe not. Whatever it's using, you need to be able to evacuate well and charge the specified amount by weight.

Picture of the valve would get you an instant answer.

Here are some shots of the brass fitting that I was referring to. It is located on the discharge of the drier and just upstream of the TXV/evaporator. It had a little plunger in it and may have other parts that I lost taking it apart. I let it drop to the ground as I was fiddling with the hoses. I guess I should have asked questions before reassembly?

One of Ford's old dry break connectors.

Info from the old board - been a while since I posted that

Scroll down about 10 posts for pics & info.

You could eliminate it. It is probably not assembled correctly at this point.

Thanks. I think I will try to remove it and recharge.
