Compressor recommendation

Post by jeepsj »

Got tired of belt issues and the H6 compressors that constantly leak at the seams, and I'm converting the 87 R30 to a serpentine setup. The kit uses the brackets from a 95-later 5.7 engine from a Chevy/GM truck. The compressor mounts with 4 bolts that go vertically from the top, through the compressor and into the bracket.

I would like to go to a Sanden such as SD7H15. I believe factory on the late 90's 5.7 was also a H6.

I've done some searching but can't quite come up with a serpentine Sanden with that mounting setup. I'm not really concerned with lines because I'll be having custom lines made.

What would you recommend for a compressor?

R30 is a 1 ton, crew cab truck.

I think I just got really lucky on a search - sd7h15 model 4019.

Good for this application?

OK, so safe to assume you agree that is a good fit?

Do you have a manifold that will bolt to the back of that? Or will my H6 manifold fit?

I did not claim it will fit. I simply provided a link to image and specs.

Why not go with a new Denso designed for a 97 5.7 P/U mount. Hoses would also fit the Denso model HT6.

Because I'm not as smart as you guys? LOL...

As long as those don't leak in the middle like my current H6 then I'll all over it.

Question - Crimping tool 41-71500-AM - what dies does that come with? And do you have a manifold that fits the compressor you recommended? My compressor has fittings on the rear.

I'm assuming that I can cut through the crimps on my stock lines and install new lines to the compressor.

Tim - are you available for a call today? This might be way easier.

Thanks!

To complicate everything, it looks like existing lines are #6 and #8.

Barrier hoses measure 0.750 and 0.910. Hard lines (aluminum) measure 0.625 and 0.480. Based on the outside diameter of the barrier hose, am I correct in the #6 and #8 sizes?

Nope, if speaking about the lines on the compressor. #8 Discharge - #10 or 12 likely 12 on the Suction. Post a pic of the hoses. I should be able to tell.
