2005 Mustang does not charge

Post by chvet73 »

I have a 2005 Mustang GT. It had sat for a few months. When I got it going there was no cooling from a/c.
Static pressure is 95 high, 90 low.
Running is high fluctuates from 145 to 155. Low from 20 to 50. Ambient temp is 85. Frequent cycling.

I tried to add Freon and it does not take any.

So where do I go from here.

Thanks.

How are you trying to charge the system Single can from autozone or full gauge set?

Great question. Tim will say NOT to use a single can type system, those often contain system-destroying sealers !!!

Both wheels open or closed on your gauge set?

Hard to tell.

Coupler not attached but you have pressure readings.
The compressor seems to be engaged.
No High Side feedback.

As mentioned. Any sealer in the refrigerant or in the system. If the answer is no. I would try a different set of gauges. Still with a system having refrigerant. Adding only a small amount should be attempted. Know proper refrigerant levels is really the only way to know correct operation of the system.

High side gauge is attached just not open. No sealer used.
I just charged a Prius for a friend last week. So I’m reasonably confident in the gauges. On the Prius it had been opened so I did a complete evacuation first.
I’m no expert but have worked on several different systems in my more then 50 years of wrenching.
I have a vac pump and an old Ridgid a/c machine with tank. So evacuate and charge might be my next move.
I’ve never used the Ridgid but maybe it’s time to crank it up.

Got flow from the can tap? Crack the feed line at the manifold to bleed it?

Between the can taps and check valves there is plenty to go wrong there.

You seem to have signal on the high & low side, the gauges are moving - so the couplers are open, at least a little bit.

The issue was the can tap and self sealing cans. Don’t know why it worked the week before. But a little cheap plastic adaptor from Pep Boys took care of it. Works fine charged up. Appears there is a very slow leak near the compressor. Gives a few beeps on occasion from my test device.
