High side adapter fitting bad?

My red (high side) quick connect fitting (that is attached to the red hose of course), when snapped on to the high pressure access fitting to the system seems not to snap in nicely. It does not 'grip" or "snap in", and a bunch of refrigerant of course starts to swoosh out. It is about 10 years old. It does not get used often as I am just a DIY ac guy. Do these things get old and behave this way?

It has a R12 thread on the hose end. Help appreciated.

A top quality set of gauges does not really act this way in my opinion. I've had some bad couplers over the years. That's with heavy daily use in aq shop. It might be a ball stuck but hard to tell over the internet.

Are you talking about an R-12 high side fitting adapter? I have one for GM-type, and one Ford-type which I still use on my '88 B2200. What vehicle/year?

A couple of years ago I bought a pack of refrigerant charging hose seals like this. Good thing, I had one fall out of a hose fitting, and some wear out. They look like this example.

Sorry for late reply, but it is not R12- R134a adapter, for an 87 Sunbird GT. Aftermarket ac system though.

Good to know, Tim. I guess then your guess is it just quit, correct? Is this normal with cheap fittings? I dont know as this is the only one I ever owned, for 12 years or so.....I am not a pro.

For $9.00 I'll take me chance that is a very low budget adapter. I'm just offering my opinion. Never said quit or did I? It's under warranty or buy another one. Either way will get you back to square one. Have you tried another adapter? Autozone in many stores offer rental guages.

Not at all, Tim- No offence ever taken from a member who offers advice- not sure where you would get that idea from my post, Im sure it is a misunderstanding. All I meant was that you might "guess", as that is all one could expect from internet diagnosis. No guarantees. Looks like it boils down to a junk fitting. And yes, its time to try another/buy another. Thanks for your imput!

Not the first time I have miss read a post. Start with good gauges and see where that takes you.
