many years ago my Dad had a York compressor as a pump.

Somewhere on the old site I posted a picture of an FS6 that would pump down to 800 microns on the suction side - with the discharge open to atmosphere. I was only turning that FS6 about 250 rpm too.

I would trust the York if it was in good shape. But a tired hermetic from a discarded refrigerator is a crap shoot. That one in the video was giving up around 28 inches. I have seen some that would only pull 18 inches.

It actually squeaked down to 800 a couple of times in other tests with a little more oil.

We could use the a/c system's old high volumetric efficiency Borg Warner York ( with back seating valves) that was mounted on the engine to evacuate the system on the side of the road. These old Yorks could squirt R-12 out the head gasket during liquid slugging, BW increased top dead center clearance to survive liquid slugging but reduced volumetric efficiency and the ability to draw a good vacuum on later generation Yorks.
Fred Porkney, retired Tecumseh chief engineer, brought the volumetric and isentropic efficiency and oil circulation know how to John E. Mitchell Co MARK !V during the Sanden compressor patent/invention period to help the inventor, Bill Oleson.
Tim"s Dad probably used the earlier generation York as a vacuum pump running at low rpm, I used Yorks with special berillium copper valves to avoid rust. Think I still have some copper valves in the tool box.

It was so long ago all I remember is pushing around a york with an electric swamp cooler motor. You have to remember, I'm still a kid today! LOL
