Mounting evaporator on its side

Hi,
I am building a custom AC and I have been trying to find a small evaporator 9" wide by 5" high. the only evaporator I can find is from a Freightliner

The problem with this is that to mount it I would have to lay it on its end and this would mean the tubes would be vertical instead of horizontal.
Is it ok to do this or is it likely to cause a problem.

Refrigerant needs to run from the top of the coil down to the bottom. I've seen people lay a coil to horizontal but results never seemed that great.

Might try searching through our evap core lists.

Not what I wanted to hear, but better than building an ineffective system.
The link you provided is good; lots of evaporators to choose from, but unfortunately no measurements.

Do you know of an evaporator that is approx 9" x 5"?

I can check with a coil company. but will need to know all 3 dimensions. 9x5x?

The thickness is not too critical.
Maybe 3" to 4.5"; a little thicker is possible, but definitely not more than 5"

Its the length and height that I can't get around.

Among the most compact evaporators are the european OEM rear seat A/Cs mounted under the seat (pugeot) or in the console (VW Jetta early euro version)
The Kysor heat/cool coil you refrerence is more than 5" (maybe 8" overall) and is probably less than 6000 BTU for sleeper cab
An evaporator mounted w/ horizontal fins would not drain water as well and therefore the wet coil cfm would be reduced by maybe 15% instead of the normal 3 to 5% verses dry coil cfm. If the refrigerant velocities are high the oil and refrigerant flow would just be reduced by only a small amount

Thank you both for your help; saved me buying the one in my link, which would have been inefficient if mounted incorrectly and it would also appear to have been too big.

Still looking though.
