Re: Trying to understand this pressure reading
Ok so a possible control valve issue, and not a blockage or restriction or issue with Txv? See this is what's so difficult with a/c troubleshooting. I have, to date, not be able to find in depth information on how not to throw parts at a poorly performing system. In this case, how would you know it...

Re: Bad compressor clutch...need help finding a leak
I've used shop air. I don't think it's a big deal to try to use shop air but some purists say only nitrogen must be used. You just change out your receiver/drier and put it in a nice deep vacuum once you sort your leak issues and whatever is happening with your compressor/clutch. I've 'heard' that t...

Re: A/C not cold when hot @ idle... Tried Everything!
I just had this problem with my 2001 Benz S430. The only thing that helped was a new compressor. The compressor was 24 years old and 'tired' I guess they call it. Just didn't have the pumping/sucking efficiency any longer. I am in FL too (Sarasota). Post your low side and high side PSI @ 1500 or 2K ...

Re: 01 S430 only mildly cooling
Ok, changed out the drier, evacuated system for an hour, recharged on the liquid side to exactly 34 ounces with my refrigerant recovery machine. Didn't even have to turn on the engine. Awesome right? I think we're back in business. I think I was undercharged before, I pulled 26.6 oz out. I'm getting...

Re: pressures won’t equalize to saturated pressures with system off
I have a 2015 A5 that uses r134a and I've noticed that it takes a long time to equalize. 30-45 minutes at the very least after engine was running. To the OP, I'd leave it off overnight then check pressures next day. Also always test your equipment. Try your gauges on another car and confirm that the...

Re: Mystery problem with intermittent AC
His pressures at 3k rpm translate to 87 PSI low and 305 PSI high. That's pretty bad. Could the clutch gap thing cause these high pressures or is this an obvious blockage in the system?

Re: A/C not cooling at all
Your low side will have high pressure as well if the condenser is faulty, blocked, or the condenser fan is not spinning adequately.

Re: 01 S430 only mildly cooling
Your 7:59 post confuses me. Are we certain that there is no re-heating of the AC air? I would clamp off a heater hose to see if there is any difference. I would also get after that fan. The comp does little work at idle as mentioned, so having all the fan possible will be important at idle. Finally...

Re: 01 S430 only mildly cooling
I managed to replace the a/c compressor (purchased a Denso unit) and replacing it was an unbelievable pain. I recharged the system to 34oz after vacuuming and I am getting higher high side pressures now (45/200) at idle (93F ambient) but cooling performance still sucks. Getting 60F vent temps at idl...

Re: 01 S430 only mildly cooling
Most ac issues on 2000’s Mercedes are caused by the “duovalve”, more specifically a coolant valve that blends heater core air with specific climate zones within the car. If you have one cold vent, and others are warm, it’s almost always the coolant valve I'm aware of the duovalve issues and I've ru...
