Re: 1987 DeVille thermistor

Douglas, thanks for the reply. Attaching to the outside of the tubing reminds me a heat-tracing. If I can not find some old mid-80 GM FWD cars with the thermistor, I'll research that idea. Thanks

Re: 1987 DeVille thermistor

Thanks Tim and I'm sure you are right about the 10. I have found out since the post there were a bunch of mid-80s GM FWD cars that used the same Thermistor. Cadillac started using it in 1984 and went though to 1988 in the DeVilles/Fleetwoods. All tolled I count 75 GM models used it (Buick, Caddys, O...

1987 DeVille thermistor

Recently had my Grandson help to change out the AC compressor and other parts on the '87 DeVille. He unscrewed the low-side thermistor and in doing so I find the plastic sensor is loose in it's attachment cap. I think the sensor is ok, reading 2.6k Ohms, but it being loose worries me that it will no...

Re: 1st Timer charging from cylinder

There's only a couple oz of gas left in that tank. You will need to procure more R-12. Empty tanks should be pulled into a vacuum using a recovery machine, then punch a hole in the tank and recycle the metal. The refrigerant in the recovery cylinder can be used. I will need to procure more R12....t...

Re: 1st Timer charging from cylinder

If tank has 80 psi and compressor is running and low side is 30 psi, then it will draw in refrigerant, turn tank upside down will help- warming tank will also help. when empty the tank should measure same as low side was when running... Thank you for your response. Checked tank psi.....33psi. If my...

1st Timer charging from cylinder

I was given a partial cylinder DuPont R12(30lb tank). There wasn't much left in it so I thought I'd use as much as I could. Cylinder weighed 8.55lbs when I started and when it reached 5.96lbs there was no more liquid in tank. 60oz needed for full charge. Looks like I got 36oz in? Wasn't sure whether...

Compressor shelf life?

10+ years ago I bought an NOS York compressor manufactured in '75 for my '81 F100. (York factory tag reads: No. M1120857 R210L #16753 MFD 04-75) For one reason or another I never had a need to use it. Drained 4¼oz clear/Brown oil from it today. Shaft turns w/wrench and makes compression. Any reason ...

Re: Converting to R134

Since last post I've decided to stay with R12. Had my OE condenser pressure tested by a competent shop and it passed all their tests. New compressor/accumulator ready to go. Waiting on new evaporator. Once that arrives I should be back in the cool air by the weekend. Happy 4th!

Re: Vacuum for leak testing

This uniweld regulator has 4.5 stars from 143 reviewers. That's about as good as you're gonna get. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008HQ6GXO/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 If you get a regulator, buy this adapter as well if the regulator has a 1/4 in outlet. It took me quite a b...
