Re: Need help with repairing 77' Airstream RV engine AC

Well, success I have 1200 miles on it this week and it is working great. Suggested charge was way too much for the system (4lbs) after conversion I used 48oz initially and it was loading the condenser, checked static charge and I was over 30psi high. Adjusted to suggested pressure and it now works f...

Re: Need help with repairing 77' Airstream RV engine AC

:::UPDATED::: So... lots to report. system was a disaster. Sorry it took a few weeks for me to get the time and to work on it. I flushed the system and the lines and condenser were completely filled with trash, complete black mud! Also, the Evaporator box had the expansion valve in it, it took me fo...

Re: Need help with repairing 77' Airstream RV engine AC

"Tell me again how many lbs of refrigerant your system holds?" 4lbs of R12 which through an online a134 conversion chart came out to 48oz of a134? Yes, I will strip and flush the system and report back. I won't have a chance to get back to it for a few weeks as its in storage while I am of...

Re: Need help with repairing 77' Airstream RV engine AC

The A6 is a great compressor, just not what is light and compact in today's vehicles. If you have an A6, stick with it. Ultimately you are going to have to determine if high pressure is locking the pump or lack of lubrication. I believe you will find that it is high pressure. That's why I came here...

tony1963 wrote: Mon Jun 26, 2023 2:13 pm How do you get airflow across the condenser? Is it in front of the engine fan?
Yes the Condenser is in the front of the radiator and has a large engine fan that pulls air through.

Re: Need help with repairing 77' Airstream RV engine AC

"Recover the charge and open the system. Pour the oil out of the accumulator and see if it is clean or full of debris." my system does not have an accumulator it has a drier mounted on the condenser. same procedure? Interesting what you said about pressure, that was my first thought as wel...

Re: Need help with repairing 77' Airstream RV engine AC

Also, I am planning on installing the new replacement S6 compressor that apparently has an updated Sanden style pump inside and is designed for a134? also I plan on adding a secondary thermostatic cycling switch as I do not believe the pump is cycling with the original setup. is this replacement con...

Re: Help Please!

I don't know if this applies to your situation, but I have an LT1 swapped 74 Camaro and the fans run on high at startup when the ecm is running/stuck in open loop. I have had this happen and the cause was a bad MAF sensor? in my case it also did not throw any ecm codes for some reason.
