Re: Ford Ranger AC Compressor Venting via Pressure Relief Valve

Thanks for your reply. Autodata system says 150ml of PAG46 oil. The compressor I installed says to put 130ml in it. Both times I just put 130ml of PAG46 oil. The R134a cans I use come with added oil, I assume, so I should get close to 150ml. The hose actually popped after installing the compressor t...

Re: Ford Ranger AC Compressor Venting via Pressure Relief Valve

Bumping for a reply.

I read somewhere on this forum that the pressure relief valves are single use?
Meaning that once they pop you have to replace them?

Is this true?

Wanting to know because I'd rather replace the valve than have to replace the whole compressor.
New compressor costs $1700 :|

Ford Ranger AC Compressor Venting via Pressure Relief Valve

Hi, 2013 Ford Ranger. The following parts were replaced: 1. AC compressor 2. AC condenser 3. Drier filter 4. TX valve 5. Radiator fan clutch 6. Condenser to compressor AC hose The fan clutch was replaced first & the heater core was by-passed. AC was still warm. The car was passed onto me & I...

Re: Another Ford Ranger AC Issue

IMHO, car manufacturers sometimes get carried away with their testing procedures and expensive tools. Unless you're curious, I don't think I would spend the time and money diagnosing a component that frequently wears out, that can be replaced in half an hour or less in many instances, and that can ...

Re: Another Ford Ranger AC Issue

FAN CLUTCH TEST (MINIMUM SPEED REQUIREMENT) 1. Use twink to mark the fan pulley 2. Turn AC off 3. Start engine & run it @ 2000rpm for 5 minutes 4. Aim laser photo tachometer @ marked fan pulley. Increase engine rpm to 3500 5. With engine @ 3500rpm & using tachometer, record fan speed 6. If f...

Re: Another Ford Ranger AC Issue

I managed to find an official test procedure from a Ford manual. A laser photo-tachometer is needed & you have to measure the rpm’s at different engine temperatures & rpm ranges. There’s a minimum & maximum RPM specification. I’ll try & upload it to this thread for anyone who needs t...

Re: Another Ford Ranger AC Issue

Car is R134a. Confirmed on Autodata service/repair system. Also I think the R1234YF service ports aren't compatible with the R134A gauges?? First 2 times car was brought in to have AC checked: 1. Viscous fan did not free wheel first thing in the morning when engine was cold & off. There was a lo...

Re: Another Ford Ranger AC Issue

It's an Australian import, second hand & only has 65,000km = 40300 miles !! I don't think it has been into a crash repair shop, at least it doesn't look that way. Flap doors/motors confirmed as there are existing error codes for 3 of the flap motors & sensors. AC has already been recovered, ...

Re: Another Ford Ranger AC Issue

Haha oh the scan tool gave pressure readings in kPA & not psi... Pressure readings (Greek to English): Initial high side pressure after car has been sitting in sun & AC first turned on 413-429 psi -> warm vent air High side pressure after car is driven for 5 minutes 355-369 psi -> cold vent ...

Re: Another Ford Ranger AC Issue

Update: Got the car back in last month & recovered & recharged the system with correct quantity as per Autodata - there is no AC gas charge sticker under the engine bonnet. Also did a few Google searches there is only a 10-20g variation between specifications. The car has come back in today ...
