Thank you both for your help; saved me buying the one in my link, which would have been inefficient if mounted incorrectly and it would also appear to have been too big.
Still looking though.

Re: Mounting evaporator on its side
The thickness is not too critical.
Maybe 3" to 4.5"; a little thicker is possible, but definitely not more than 5"
Its the length and height that I can't get around.
Thanks,
Paul

Re: Mounting evaporator on its side
Thanks Tim,
Not what I wanted to hear, but better than building an ineffective system.
The link you provided is good; lots of evaporators to choose from, but unfortunately no measurements.
Do you know of an evaporator that is approx 9" x 5"?
Thanks again,
Paul

Mounting evaporator on its side
Hi, I am building a custom AC and I have been trying to find a small evaporator 9" wide by 5" high. the only evaporator I can find is from a Freightliner http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Heater-Evaporator-coil-Fits-Freightliner-with-OEM-N83-315910-/291646128186?hash=item43e776c03a:g:4eUAAOSwNyF...
