Re: Guidance with CO2 Leak Testing
Testing with the sniffer showed a consistent leak at the low side R12 to R134a service port adapter. I removed the adapter and reinstalled it with Nylog thread sealant. I had to return the sniffer before I could reseal it but have watched it over several days with CO2 and it seems to be holding. Tha...

Re: Guidance with CO2 Leak Testing
Just wanted to update everyone on my progress. I did find a leaky hose was able to have it repaired. I also found my gauge set was leaking so I've been careful to pressure test with the gauge set off and the service caps in place. Although after pressure testing at 115 psi for several days with the ...

Re: Guidance with CO2 Leak Testing
Thanks to all for your responses. A tech friend recommended Murphy's Oil soap. What do you guys think? The lowest cost Tek-Mate is 180. Tuff to justify as I might not use it again. Harbor Freight has one for $80 but I'm concerned it may not have the necessary sensitivity for a small leak. Any others...

Re: Guidance with CO2 Leak Testing
Thanks. I will give the sniffer another try. Any inexpensive models you would recommend? We replaced the R12 to R134 adapters several times. It continued to leak with the caps on. When we did the one sniffer test we assumed it may be the oring around the port. With my recent pressure test I put the ...

Re: Guidance with CO2 Leak Testing
Thanks for the reply. Caps are always on and secure. We did not test inside the car with the sniffer. No shower cap test. The tool belongs to a mechanic friend so I'll have to see if I can borrow it. The motor is now out of the car although the AC system is intact. I'd be using 12 oz cans. Rookie qu...

Guidance with CO2 Leak Testing
All, I've been chasing a leak on my 1993 RX7 with 134a conversion for the past year. The conversion was working well for the prior 15 years. After a fresh charge we saw no film/vapor coming onto the windshield, so our assumption is that the evaporator is OK. We have used dye and a refrigerant sniffe...
