Re: Brand new A/C from scratch - '88 Mustang
I am about to embark on a similar voyage with my 1991 GT using R12. Could I ask where you were able to find those NOS parts? Any links available? Thanks! Search item # 182561762901 I am running an aftermarket condensor however. That's the only non-Ford part. ---- Oh and as a update to the thread. W...

Re: Brand new A/C from scratch - '88 Mustang
Given that you are using the precious R12, I would add that a good investment would be an electronic sniffer, and I would sniff the system every once in a while to head bad things off. But that may just be me. I would be lost without my sniffer I actually did buy a sniffer along the way. My investm...

Re: Brand new A/C from scratch - '88 Mustang
I would be inclined to drop back to the 8 ounce oil charge, and the 34 ounce refrigerant charge to start with, and see how the system acts when charged. So, a year later and I can report that the system is complete, charged and it's been working great for a few months now. Granted, we are just now ...

Re: How good of a vacuum do you need?
Thanks guys.
I did it one more time. Got down to 165ish microns and after an hour or so it leveled off around 500-600 microns. I think I'm good.
Looking forward to having functional A/C on the car for the first time in the 25 years i've owned it.

How good of a vacuum do you need?
Been working on restoring my '88 Mustang and adding AC back in using R12. All new NOS Ford lines, and rebuilt the compressor. Initially I was having trouble pulling a deep vaccum and was having it stall out around 5000 microns. I abandoned the manifold guage and used an Apion VCRT, pulled the core a...

Re: Brand new A/C from scratch - '88 Mustang
Doesn't that only apply when converting from R12 to R134a.
In this case, I'm staying with R12 with the only change being the Parallel flow condenser vs the original tube-and-fin.
Unless i'm missing something??

Re: Brand new A/C from scratch - '88 Mustang
. YN9-A is Ford std ESA-M2C31-A Z, 525 visc. Thanks. From what i can see, the YN9-A superseeds the YN9, so i think i'm good using the bottle that i have. According to the shop manual, capacity is 10 ounces and it does detail out how much to put in each component if doing a new system from scratch, ...
