Re: Weak Compressors, or bad orifice tube?
Just wanted to update. I received my factory hard line with the variable orifice valve and I installed it last night. Charged up my system and pressures and temps we perfect. As Dougflas stated the VOV definitely works better at idle and low speed. This is an advantage for me as this vehicle is for ...

Re: Weak Compressors, or bad orifice tube?
Really weird look for an orifice tube, i swear i've never seen one like this before. The two differently sized holes on the front and the spring looking thing (rather than a single metal pipe surrounded by plastic and filtering media) lead me to believe that it's some kind of a variable flow orific...

Apologies, that's correct. My parts and information I was looking up were not from this forum or websites. I just didn't want to mention any other site names here.Tim wrote:For identification reasons.

Re: Weak Compressors, or bad orifice tube?
Exactly what I was thinking, just a pain that you don't really know what you are getting with these replacement hard lines. This is what was inside the blue one that was working. Anyone seen one like this? The white orifice sounds and feels like a ceramic piece. https://i.imgur.com/XkVy4aV.jpg https...

Re: Weak Compressors, or bad orifice tube?
Thank you guys for the suggestions. I replaced the blend doors last year since they are a known issue on this model. They were replaced with aluminum doors with thicker foam. I have easy access to them so I double checked to make sure the actuators are operating like they should. Everything looks fi...

Re: Weak Compressors, or bad orifice tube?
Thank you so much for the reply guys! I appreciate your help troubleshooting. Jeep does change alot midway! In 01 they went with the expansion valve in this model and also increased refrigerant to 27 ounces. So in this vehicle the orifice tube is crimped in the hard line so no real way for me to che...

Re: Weak Compressors, or bad orifice tube?
The system capacity for that GW is 26 ounces of refrigerant, and 7.5 ounces of PAG 100 oil. You are undercharged on refrigerant, and at an unknown oil charge level. When you replace a compressor, drain the NEW one. It is unlikely that there was a full 7.5 ounces in the replacement compressor. Testi...

Weak Compressors, or bad orifice tube?
Hello all, fairly new to ac repair but not vehicle repairs. I could really use some help. I have a 1999 jeep grand cherokee 4.7l that is mostly for offroading/weekend car. The old compressor let go while driving a few weeks ago. I actually heard it go and the vent temps became hot immediately (I alw...
