Re: R1234yf Auto Retrofits

Currently, R-134a is still readily available, although it's a lot more expensive when compared to just two or three years ago. If you plan to hold onto your cars and keep them R-134a, purchasing some refrigerant now while you still can might be a good idea, especially if you don't want to get invol...

Re: R1234yf Auto Retrofits

I read that 134A is to be discontinued in new applications starting in 2025 in the US. Anyone have any thoughts on if it will start to become difficult to get 134A - like what happened to R12? I actually finally had my 1990's vehicle's R12 system swapped out for a 134A system three summers ago. As u...

Re: Insulate low side hose?

You already have the definitive answer from the pros on this board, which far out way the amateur answers on other boards. Tim (board owner) has assembled some of the sharpest consultants in existence. A couple have worked in industry in Detroit, one helped invent the rotary compressor, then known ...

Re: Insulate low side hose?

If the line or hose is cold, then yes, insulate What's weird is I posed that same question about a year ago on car forum and the consensus was not to insulate it. that the factory had a good reason to leave it unprotected. What that reason could be I cannot imagine. Seems like insulating it would h...

Re: Insulate low side hose?

I've wondered about OP's question myself. You gentlemen are referring to the one very cold metal line, correct? I've always wondered why car makers don't insulate that line, they do it on residential AC systems. So.. should I be insulating the one in my car?

Re: How well does a modern car's AC system work in a place like Death Valley?

^I'm glad to hear about these experiences, makes me think our vehicles would do ok - at least my wife's anyway, lol. 110+ is crazy hot, I'm amazed how well the AC systems cope with it. The general consensus I've read over the years is that for all GM's other faults, one thing they really have down i...

How well does a modern car's AC system work in a place like Death Valley?

There's been a lot of stories lately about Death Valley and it's often seen 120+ degree temps and it got me thinking, do AC systems in vehicles even work at all in those types temps? I remember visiting Las Vegas in the mid '90s when they had record heat at the time, was 115+ degrees for the few day...

Re: New member needs advice from the AC experts. :)

Hello everyone (who took part in my thread), I'm back for another update. It's been a long time since I've posted, and my thread is now a necro thread I'm sure. Nonetheless I wanted to tell everyone here - and future searchers - how all this turned out. Spoiler alert: my car now has cold AC - yay! :...

Re: Need a good AC shop recommendation Greensboro NC.

Lacking a response from someone on this forum who lives there, I'd look for a shop that specializes primarily in MVAC instead of tire shops and chain stores that do A/C work on the side. Might be worth asking friends, family, and neighbors, as well as checking with MACS and the BBB. Thanks for the ...

Need a good AC shop recommendation Greensboro NC.

Would appreciate all recommendations for good AC shops in the Greensboro NC area. Would even be willing to go as far as Raleigh. Thanks very much!
