Best A/C Tech In So Ca
I am looking for the best tech in LA or San Diego to look at my motorhome A/C. I have a leak(s) somewhere in the system I can't find. I've tried sniffers, ultra violet, etc. but I can't find it anywhere.

R134 Can Side Tap Advantage?
I often charge vehicles with R134. Should I buy a side can puncturing device from Tim and ditch the can top fitting? Is there an advantage to the side tap? With these blue adapters coming out for the top fittings, it seems like a side tap would be an advantage.

Re: Holding Vacuum When Evacuating, How Long??
Slit a plastic bag and wrapped it around the compressor then taped it up tight. Totally avoided messing with belts which are a PITA. Ran sniffer through to the inside and nothing there. Compressor is a Tim Special and good to go. I think my whole problem was those Schrader valve(s).

Re: Holding Vacuum When Evacuating, How Long??
I have a neighbor that has an old original 57 that's just sat garaged there for at least 35 years and not run. A CA car and an E series car (factory dual quad). He probably would sell it if you are interested. I live in the San Diego area. This car has absolutely no rust and is dead straight. I woul...

Re: Holding Vacuum When Evacuating, How Long??
Tbirdtbird, It's not too late. I can still do the shower cap trick but I will have to use a zip lock bag. No shower caps around here. Interesting password, I have two '97 T Birds here. Great cars, I have had 6 of them since they came out in 1990. So you think my 58 pounds is too high for a simple le...

Re: Holding Vacuum When Evacuating, How Long??
Yea, that's a little much for my needs. My system seems to be holding at 58 pounds on the low side with the gauges still hooked up for two days. I have just 2 cans in the system with the rest being some nitrogen. Seems to be leak free so my trouble before, when I lost everything, must have been the ...

Re: Holding Vacuum When Evacuating, How Long??
I am not missing caps and have a drawer full of extras. Many fit the threads but I am in doubt about their sealing ability. I guess it's the rubber in the bottom of the cap that does the sealing. Most have a short stem that I wonder about because if that stem contacts the valve at all, presto you ha...

Re: Holding Vacuum When Evacuating, How Long??
I am sure you are right about the sealing material on Schrader valves being different for A/C use than tires. But how do you tell the difference? I bought some new valves on E Bay that were said to be for HVAC but how do you know for sure before you invest in all that refrigerant to charge a whole s...

Re: Holding Vacuum When Evacuating, How Long??
Good news, evaporator hose clean. I am beginning to think I had some leaky tire valves. I did see that they were both filled to the brim with PAG oil. I am surprised to hear that the caps sometimes play a role in sealing. I thought they were like tire caps and were there to keep out dirt and moistur...

Re: Holding Vacuum When Evacuating, How Long??
Thanks, that's a great tip, i.e. using the drain line to check the evaporator.
