Re: Resurrecting 1970 GM AC with POA
I remind everyone that this topic is about five or six years old. Probably worthwhile to start a new one. Hi John. I started the topic and I resurrected it because the replacement fitting was relevant to my system. I figure this can remain a set of running notes on my system in case it helps anyone...

Re: What To Do Next? R134 or R12
That is an interesting dilemma! I'm not familiar with the 924 - what kind of system is it? TXV? What does it do for low side regulation? Clutch cycling? On my old GM POA system, I know it's important to adjust the POA valve so the evaporator will run at appropriate temperatures when converted to R13...

Re: Resurrecting 1970 GM AC with POA
I found another source for AC compressor adapters. Online they go by "Air Components" but their brick & mortar business (and invoices) all say "Discount Auto Air". They have a few ready-made configurations, but will also custom fabricate to your specifications if you need the...

Re: Buick AC, freezing POA valve, warm air
It is normal for frost to form on the second half of the POA valve when it's regulating. That's because the POA will set the minimum evaporator pressure, but down stream the compressor can suck down further which will result in lower temps and frost after the POA. I've attached a photo of my POA val...

Re: Resurrecting 1970 GM AC with POA
Earlier this month I took the Nova to work. http://cjnn.xtremefabricator.com/images/LY6swap/ly6swap1485.jpg There's something magical about the reverberation of a V8 idling into a parking structure. It brought back memories from taking this car to my high school prom and setting off all the fast &am...

Re: Resurrecting 1970 GM AC with POA
I didn't snap photos of the wiring but I got that done last week. I was faithful to the wiring diagram in my previous post. To test, I bypassed the safety switch and confirmed the clutch and high speed fan were triggered when the AC was turned on. Everything was working properly so I headed to a bud...

Re: How to charge custom system
I came across another version of the charging-by-increments and monitoring pressure. It was embedded in this thread and here is a quote: You can add small amounts of refrigerant while looking at the pressures to sneak up on a full charge with a TXV system like that. On a custom system where the char...

Re: Resurrecting 1970 GM AC with POA
Evacuate the system and put a little refrigerant in the system. You do not want the system to be at negative pressure. I don't understand your comment. Right now the system was just freshly assembled. I haven't drawn a vacuum on it yet, so it shouldn't be at negative pressure. As soon as I have the...

Re: How to charge custom system
This thread has some interesting information: https://www.autoacforum.com/messageview.cfm?catid=2&threadid=11759 1) It describes how an OE might set the charge amount using high ambient conditions in a wind tunnel and adding charge until they reach the desired subcooling in the condenser 2) It d...

How to charge custom system
I have pieced together a custom system consisting of a 1970 evaporator TXV and POA (adjusted for r134a) with a newer compressor, parallel flow condenser, aftermarker drier, and custom hoses. I can not seem to find a thread or online post on how to determine an appropriate charge amount for a custom ...
