Re: What happens when capacity of system is exceeded?
Sorry to revive an old thread, did some thinking though! If the TXV loses control and is 100% open, one would expect the low side pressure to start to go down, correct? This would mean the TXV is bottle necking the system and the compressor is overcoming the capacity of the evaporator. As long as th...

Re: How to test EPR (evaporator pressure regulator)
I just wanted to document a few things here since I have undertaken a pretty big project on my Lexus. The goal was to get coldest air possible this summer however it was more experimentation and learning process. The main changes I set out to make were: 1. Increase the TXV capacity (1.5 ton to 2.0 t...

Vintage air monster condensers
I was searching for aftermarket parallel flow universal condensers when I came across vintage air monster condenser. It claims more capacity and I can see that the thickness is 1" which is greater than the usual 0.8" thickness. Is this thick of a universal condenser available from anyone e...

Re: What happens when capacity of system is exceeded?
Unfortunately the evaporator, TXV, sensing bulb are all burried deep in the dashboard. In order to access them the blower must be removed, so I can't run the system and access them simultaneously. I can say almost for certain the inlet is colder than the outlet significantly because the outlet pipe ...

Re: What happens when capacity of system is exceeded?
The thermal power supplied to the condenser is the total of the thermal power absorbed by the evaporator and the power transferred to the refrigerant by the compression process, plus all the other tiny heat gains. The condenser pressure will continue to rise if more and more thermal power must be r...

Re: What happens when capacity of system is exceeded?
You are repeating yourself. There are engineers, and there are practical hands on experts There is no MVAC engineering forum in existence. Nor are there any textbooks that have the kind of info I am looking for that I can find. Technical hands on experts can really help understand the theory too. I...

Re: What happens when capacity of system is exceeded?
You are correct, higher condensing pressure means more heat transfer. In reality though, the condenser rejects exactly the amount of thermal power it is being fed. The condenser pressure floats up or down so that it can reject that supplied thermal power. Can you expand on this one? What determines...

Re: What happens when capacity of system is exceeded?
Thank you everyone for all the input, I think we have covered just about everything I can do on this car, I will think about whether or not I'm going to continue trying. I am curious about some refrigeration theory though. Lets say I am aiming for a 40 degree evaporator core - according to R134a PT ...

Re: What happens when capacity of system is exceeded?
I think you're probably right about the condenser. I went through a similar exercise with my supra I used to have - insulating the low side lines and it made no difference at all that I could notice, that's why I'm not sure of it's worth it. When I look at the condenser I just get intimidated becaus...
