Figuring I didn't have much to lose, I went ahead and charged the system with r134a. I know, I know... impatience will cost money down the line BUT the system worked. 38*F at the vents on a 94* day with 80ish humidity (if my weather app is to be trusted).
My next step is to ...

Re: What To Do Next? R134 or R12
I found the contact info for the PO I purchased the car from and called him. The estate he bought the car from didn't have any records about the a/c conversion to r-134. But when he had the refurb work done (by a porsche specialist) to get the car driveable, the system was recharged with r-134 and ...

What To Do Next? R134 or R12
This is a different take on the usual "which refrigerant" question. Let me explain:
I have a '79 Porsche 924 I bought about 8 months ago. PO told me the ac didn't work. There's no r134 conversion sticker and I have several cans of r-12 in hand (from a prior project). So yesterday I decided I was ...

I definitely want to stay with the r12 for now... less hassle, less expensive, less work, etc. That's assuming I can run down the source of the leak.
And no, I would not put any stop leak product in any of my cars... that's like using proto-matter in your Genesis ...

1991 Mercedes R12 Troubleshooting
Greetings all,
I recently bought a 1991 Mercedes 300D that is still running r12. Seller said the ac had been week for a couple years but he never felt the need to repair or switch over to r134a as it was a weekend driver. Compressor clutch won't engage. That tells me there's insufficient refrigerant ...
