Re: New Motorcraft compressor, clutch wouldn't turn by hand, squealed after installation
High sider of 175 is low. Tubes on the evap mildly cool. I know you claim to have the right amount of refrigerant. Really looks like an undercharged system. Something I'm trying to wrap my head around is the above statement. I know the R134a pressure charts out there are just a loose-ish guide, but...

In all of that! Do you ever list the low side pressure reading? High sider of 175 is low. Tubes on the evap mildly cool. I know you claim to have the right amount of refrigerant. Really looks like an undercharged system. Plus not all designs work great. You can only get so much out of a system if i...

Re: New Motorcraft compressor, clutch wouldn't turn by hand, squealed after installation
I went back to my buddy's today and after de-greasing all of my pulleys and installing a new belt yesterday, he charged the system back up with 3.6 lbs of R134a. This time the compressor operated as expected. No belt slippage, no noises, no compressor lock-up..... everything seemed fine. However, as...

Re: New Motorcraft compressor, clutch wouldn't turn by hand, squealed after installation
If the evaporator lines are not cold, you have a refrigeration issue. I have run across this once before on an add on system. The drier was installed in reverse. I am not saying this is your problem but it is something to keep in mind. Without pulling up your vehicle, you may have a defective TXV H...

Re: New Motorcraft compressor, clutch wouldn't turn by hand, squealed after installation
Hi Doug, the symptoms I was describing were before I replaced the compressor a few days ago. I had gone as far as clamping of heater core lines, and I don't recall temperatures of the evaporator cores but the lines leading off them, nor the cores themselves, were getting very cool. Blend door motors...

Re: New Motorcraft compressor, clutch wouldn't turn by hand, squealed after installation
Hi Tim and Cusser. I guess, the bigger picture is that I could only see that low of a temperature on this truck's absolute best day. That's under 85 degrees ambient temperature, after blasting down the highway for 20 minutes or so. On a hotter day, things were so much worse. Or even on an 85 degree ...

Re: New Motorcraft compressor, clutch wouldn't turn by hand, squealed after installation
If my vehicle, just to learn more, (1) I'd pull the belt off the compressor and try turning the compressor with a wrench. (2) I'd jump the compressor clutch with 12 volt positive wire and see if the AC clutch engaged each time. I would guess that it might be possible to get oil on an AC clutch surf...

New Motorcraft compressor, clutch wouldn't turn by hand, squealed after installation
Backstory: Hi everyone, I replaced my a/c compressor in my '06 Navigator with an aftermarket compressor a couple of years ago. I removed everything down to just the line sets, flushed the lines, dried the lines, and put everything back together with new components (compressor, condenser, drier/accum...

Re: Evaporator temps around 70 degrees, vent temps only 45 degrees at best
Does anyone here understand super-heat and sub-cooling? I've been talking to my buddy who does residential and commercial A/C work for a living. He's been doing it for over a decade. He admits to not knowing about automotive A/C systems, but he has been dealing with R134A for quite some time. He use...

Re: Evaporator temps around 70 degrees, vent temps only 45 degrees at best
So late last week, we had our first really hot day. It was about 98/98 degrees outside. The car was not in the shade, sitting in a parking lot with my Covercraft windshield visor and tinted windows, so the interior was definitely hot still, but not exactly baking. I started up the car with the front...
