Re: Tube & Fin Condenser on Roof?
Hi guys. A thousand apologies for leaving this for so long, but this job took a huge amount of time, and during a big move between towns as well, so I've been flat out. I couldn't leave this without an update though. I had to build an ally chequerplate box for the condenser, drier, and relays, all i...

Re: Tube & Fin Condenser on Roof?
Thanks for that. Landies in America have always gone for silly prices. Hopefully I won't need another compressor but thanks for the tip. I have to start on this job soon and I'll really have to remember to post an update. We had a week of rain recently, and I had a couple of long drives to do. The a...

Ha ha, imagine what he would've looked like if he'd had a flat tyre!

Re: Tube & Fin Condenser on Roof?
Yeah, I saw that! And plenty of people from up north are driving down to Perth or back up after the holidays, so a really bad time to be travelling. Those specs you list are sort of what I'm looking at . . . well, not so extreme, but I want to get this system so that it can handle an extreme day and...

Re: Tube & Fin Condenser on Roof?
No, not late at all and I appreciate any help. Sorry, no pressures as I don't have my notes handy, but they were normal for Hychill refrigerant. The aircon works perfectly below about 35c, and above that it seems like there's just too much heat for it to shift. I also did the spray-water-on-the-cond...

Re: Tube & Fin Condenser on Roof?
Argh! Yes, KF head! Posting at the end of the day is never a good idea . . .
Good idea, but hopefully this big condenser on the roof will do the job.
And thanks again!

Re: Tube & Fin Condenser on Roof?
Sorry, I forgot to check here yesterday! Thanks for all the things you've pointed out, they are all things I wouldn't have thought of. My system is so basic that it wouldn't be too hard to have the compressor clutch engaged during start-up. I've got some Pag 46 coming over from Speedy Air Spares bec...

Re: Tube & Fin Condenser on Roof?
G'day! Thanks for making some points I hadn't thought about. It's always good to get someone else's view of these things. #1 - If I could figure out how to post a photo I took it would help! It would show this condenser up on a full-length roof rack, where there's plenty of room underneath for a sco...

Tube & Fin Condenser on Roof?
I've got an 80s Range Rover here in Australia, with a new aircon I built a few years ago. I taught myself everything and built my own hoses since I'm in the bush and trades here are generally hopeless. It's worked well, but always really lost effectiveness above 35C or so. Below that and it's great....

Re: Help Please! Vac Oil In New AC System
Well, Galaxy hose is neoprene on the inside, and after lots of experimentation today only naphtha will dissolve this vacuum pump oil. This surprised me since any other mineral oil I've dealt with will dissolve with water-based degreaser. So as neoprene and naphtha aren't recommended to play together...
